Tips for creating amazing family photos
We are in the thick of family photo season and we all know how stressful preparing for it can be. It doesn’t have to be so dreadful if you plan things ahead.
I'll share with you some tips to consider before your family session.
⭐️ Clothing. When you go shopping, try to find one outfit with a pattern or with multiple colors in it. So if you notice the dress on little Miss Cutie Pie, it has a pattern with a color pallet that mom can pull from to help dress herself, her awesome hubby and little Mr. Cutie Pie. Be careful combining multiple patterns. The plaid dress and mom's stripes compliment each other and do not clash. Solids on dad and the suspenders on little man add interest but again compliments what the ladies are wearing. Layering is also great. Sweaters, vests, kimonos, jackets and blazers also gives depth, is slimming and sometimes hides some features we sometimes are not overly excited about.
⭐️ Location. If you have little ones, try to come up with a location that isn't overly stimulating. Too much commotion, too many people and too much noise can feel overwhelming and can be very distracting to them. Limiting all of these things helps us gain their attention and keep their composure. Often times we agree on meeting at a state park where we have the option of selecting a few backgrounds and enough space to take breaks when we need to. An added benefit to shooting at these types of locations is using the kiddie park as an incentive after the shoot is over. That usually makes them happy.
⭐️ Relax. Photos sessions should not be forceful and stressful. Experienced photographers are fully aware that children will cry, will not always look at the camera and smile, will not want to pose, mom's hair might get a little frizzy and that dad's sometimes dread picture day. Keep in mind that we are creating AUTHENTIC memories and realistic moments in your life. If you are able to get a few posed shots, great! If you capture candid images then that is even more great! If the kids are crying, looking over tenderly towards mom or seeking refuge in dad's arms then let it be. You will look back at these and remember the story of that part of your life.
It’s in my heart to memorialize the present moments in your family's life. It's history in the making, time that we never get to relive and memories that will live on forever in photos. Enjoy the experience of capturing all of it. I absolutely love providing this service and experience for you!
